Feng Shui Your Way To Happiness

Feng WHAT? Yeah, we said the same thing. Try spelling the Shui! Boy did that take a few goes… #guilty.

I’m sure you have all briefly heard of Feng Shui (pronounced Feng Shway) but do you actually know what it is or how to do it!? We sure didn’t. Read on for some simple ways we can all incorporate a bit of Feng Shui into our lives!

Feng shui is an ancient art and science developed over 3,000 years ago in China. It is a complex body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure health and good fortune for people inhabiting it.

Feng means wind and shui means water. In Chinese culture wind and water are associated with good health, thus good feng shui came to mean good fortune, while bad feng shui means bad luck, or misfortune.

According to feng shui, if you don’t have enough joy then the flow of chi is out of balance. Feng shui is a wonderful way to bring more fun and happiness into your life because it improves the flow of beneficial energy in your home. Here are our top 10 Feng Shui tips based off experts common opinion, on how to increase happiness in your home and essentially your life!


Tip 1: Make it a ritual to remove your shoes before entering your home. The physical action allows you to mentally leave the stress of your job, traffic jams and bad days outside!

Tip 2: Make sure your entrance to your home, or your bedroom reflects who you are — it’s how the chi energy comes into your home! Make your entry look nice, because remember it’s your face to the world!

Tip 3: Do a space cleansing in your home in order to remove negative energy, sadness, fear, anger or disappointments from last year! This could be burning palo santo wood, smudging with white sage or as simple as spritzing natural orange essential oil with water!

Tip 4: Keep all wires and cords away from your bed. The radiation from your phone and other electronics are not good for you and can disrupt your sleep, so it’s better if they’re not anywhere near you!

Tip 5: Bring in Nature! We come from 100,000 generations of ancestors who lived in the natural world. Nature realigns our energy field and makes us feel whole. (If you are like us, it is also an excuse to add to your succulent obsession!)

Tip 6: Fix any squeaky hinges, ESPECIALLY your front door! The sound is as if the door is crying and this can affect your mood and well-being subconsciously! 

Tip 7: Crystals! Feng shei and crystals are like soul sisters when it comes to your home, as they are both masters of creating positive energy flow. Crystals are used in feng shui in a variety of ways, such as hanging a clear white quartz crystal ball in your window or simply placing them on your bedside table or doorways. Tip 8: Clean your space and clear clutter! We know it sounds simple, but look around at your space right now…Could it be cleaner? Is that pile of dirty washing making you feel uneasy? Clutter disrupts your life. When it’s rampant, you feel stressed about everything and it hinders your ability to find peace.

Tip 9: Make sure you can see your entrance when sitting on your bed or any other main furniture. But not so you are in direct alignment with the open doorway! (So many rules we know!! But you will thank us later!)

Tip 10: Incorporate moving objects. Moving objects like mobiles, water fountains or wind chimes increase the positive flow of energy, therefore increasing joy!
